I'm sorry for my ignorance smile

but what is the flight academy in the pilot's lounge? When I click in "enroll in course" I can't select anything. Is this normal? I sure would be interested to take some courses!!

To further on what the flight academy exactly is, it is exactly what it sounds like. The flight academy is an optional venture a pilot can take on if they wish to further develop their flying skills. Certified flight instructors (academy certified and some real world) will guide you (in and out of the aircraft) through the basic procedures of true flying (no FMC's or fancy G1000 avionics). At the end of the program, you can become AFVA/DVA PPL, IFR, and COMM certified. Also available through the academy will be a new program Vatsim is piloting that gives pilots a P1 rating - and they may soon require all pilots to get it. Vatsim's new P1 rating ensures pilots have basic Vatsim skills. DVA was recently honored as being an agency that can issue the P1 rating. With the huge number of Vatsim pilots, imagine the time you could save by getting it here!

That's a very, very brief overview of the academy. It has a lot more to offer!

Speaking of the flight academy, with the online pilot do I need to use voice to pass? I am unable to use voice only text.

Most of Vatsim's P1 is self directed. However, during the check out flight, you are required to communicate via voice with ATC.

Looking forward to this - DVA already have it, don't they?

I don't think any pilot ratings will ever be necessary to fly on VATSIM (http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=40869&sid=2) - they very firmly promised that this would never be the case!

Anyway, sounds like a lot of fun, I'm looking forward to it becoming available.
