It has come to my attention that there needs to be additional clarification regarding safety on the 737 Check Ride.
Our aim and purpose during the Check Ride is to evaluate your performance in all phases of flight in the Boeing 737 aircraft, including how abnormalities are handled. I'm not expecting pilots to memorize the abnormal procedures checklist, but certain events such as weather induced instability on approach, for example, may be encountered. A pilot initiated go-around is not considered an automatic failure. Safety of flight is our number 1 concern as pilots.
If an abnormality is encountered during the Check Ride, please send en email to the 737 staff explaining what happened and the procedures taken to rectify the situation so we have additional background information at hand when evaluating your flight. Since we can't sit next to you during the check out (as much as we'd love to!) any additional information you provide us about your flight will minimize delays in processing your exam and help us do a better job at giving you a thorough evaluation. Please remember - "safety first!"
If there are any questions, please contact either myself or the 737 Assistant Chief Pilot, Jesse Rouse.
