Hi,

I would like to participate in the Amsterdam to Rio de Janeiro online event next saturday. But I am not qualified for any long range aircraft.
How can I join this party?

Thanks!

I have checked the range of the A320 family and unless you're using the A319 with winglets/ A319neo, (I may be wrong, I am not the A320 expert here) I don't think you'll have the range using this aircraft, you'd need to be rated for the 737 BBJ or rated for at least the A330/ Boeing equivalent which requires being an A320 Captain then taking the exam for the A330 First Officer and taking the checkride, it does not look like you'd be able to participate in this event at the moment, but speak to your A320 CP about the range first.

Hi Robert,
I unfortunately don't have any good news for you either. The A319 would not make this route the non winglet has a range of roughly 3700 NM and the winglet a range of 4200 NM. The distance for this route is about 6000 NM which therefore means that neither would be able to make this journey.

I believe the longest distance an A320 family aircraft flies is British airways #2 and A318 that flies from New York to London, a distance of about 3000 NM which is still only about 1/2 this flights distance. And to add to this, this A318 has been modified to have less seats and other weight reductions.

Hi guys,

Thanks, I had also already figured out that Brazil is way too far away from Amsterdam for the A32X family. I will see if maybe I can do this trip with a fuel stop on the Cape Verde Islands, which is about half way.

In the end I did the A320 Captain's exam and the check ride for the B767. So I can join the club towards Brazil!
Thanks to Paul Hale for his cooperation on getting me certified on the B767 in a short time.
