pilots:
I am trying to help a new pilot who has fs2002 and only flown general aviation.
I have some questions about ATC that I hope you can help me with.

1. Does ATC assign an initial altitude or do you climb right to FL?

2. Does ATC hand you from center to center?

3 Will ATC tell you when to descend?

4. Will ATC vector you to the assigned runway and can you ask for a different runway?

I appreciate any help thank you

1. You select your cruise altitude in the flight planner. You will be instructed to climb right on up there after departure. There is no initial assigned altitude.

2. Yes

3. Yes, but the descent is not always correct. It appears that if you descend at 1800FPM and 280, it usually gets you in the ball park. STAR's and SID's are unheard of using FS2K2 ATC.

4. Yes. No.
