I am extremely pleased to announce the start of Aviation Français Virtuel. We accepted the first batch of Founding Members. (If you have expressed interest to me and are not in the list, do not fret. The second batch of Founding Members will be accepted in the next few days once the basic web site shakeout is complete.)
The names are familiar to you, but we will not be strangers. We're going to be sharing the Water Cooler with some special AFV channels, which is probably why you are seeing this post. If you are interested, please feel free to visit http://www.afva.net/ to see how we're doing!
Cheers!

Brian, about the Hours, if you join AFVA you´ll keep your hours with you.
But as Luke said, pilots won´t be able to be in both airlines, or at least with the same ID.

You mean the 1 flight, 7.1 hours? I can assure you that if you look at the DVA logbooks, my and Ariel's hours are all still there. I deliberately made it very difficult back in 2001 to actually delete any piece of data from the databases. The flights are all still there, I am merely searching for the best way to display the data.
Cheers!

Hmm ok... Luke.. so does that mean that the 0 flights 0 hours thing next to your name is just temporary... and it will change to what you had at Delta, but your just trying to figure out a way how to do that?

I don't know, hence the difficulty. I do not want to merge the two sets of hours into one, not least because the PIREPs behind them are in two separate databases. At the same time, if a pilot has made a substantial commitment to both airlines over the course of his or her career with us, then that should be recognised. I'm also highly dissatisfied with the calculation of online hours; it's rather slow and inefficient and to do it twice (checking the DVA/AFV databases) might be a little much.
All sorts of fun stuff in flux.
Cheers!

You know what I think would be cool... It's just my opinion, but I think that once you get AFVA up and fully running that there be a Saturday night event where AFVA departs CDG-JFK and at the same time DVA departs JFK-CDG and you guys would meet half way! I think that would be cool!

Luke,
If we have type ratings in certain aircraft like the A330, A340, 747, Concorde etc... will we still be able to retain those ratings and fly the code share flights with just the DVA ID, or do we need to jon AFVA, and re-test to get the ratings, and fly Air France flights?
